Summer is a high-risk time for children. Thousands of children in Maine who received subsidized breakfast and lunch in the school cafeteria, are now facing three long months of going hungry.
Families with two kids have to come up with more than 200 extra meals during the summer vacation, and that is impossible for most low-income families.

We work very hard at the Good Shepherd Food Bank to alleviate hunger here in Maine. More than 44,000 children and their families receive nutritious food and meals through our network of pantries and soup kitchens. In addition, we have developed specific programs to help at-risk children during the summer and all year round.
